Furrows between the brows and creases that develop on the forehead over time are very common concerns among both women and men. Fortunately, there are aesthetic enhancement procedures that can significantly minimize signs of these concerns and create smoother skin and a more youthful, relaxed appearance. A surgical treatment such as brow lift and a non-surgical procedure like BOTOX® Cosmetic are two of the more popular options that can address these issues; however, they are very different types of procedures and one may be more ideal than the other, depending on individual needs and goals.

A brow lift can be best for patients who are experiencing drooping eyebrows, lax skin in the upper face, and severe wrinkles and fine lines between the brows and along the forehead. The results of a brow lift procedure can provide significant rejuvenation and last for several years. With this in mind, the surgical nature of this procedure involves a greater degree of risk when compared with non-surgical treatments, and patients will need a recovery period at home before resuming normal daily routines.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable procedure that does not involve surgery, general anesthesia, or downtime. BOTOX® injections can smooth away mild to moderate frown lines between the brows, creases along the forehead, and other signs of age and stress in the upper face; however, this treatment is not effective for a sagging brow and cannot improve signs of inelastic tissue. In addition, the results of BOTOX® Cosmetic are temporary—the effects typically fade after three to four months, and occasional follow-up injections will be necessary to maintain them.

Ultimately, whether a brow lift or BOTOX® Cosmetic is the right option for you will depend on the concerns you would like to address and what you are hoping to achieve. If you are not quite ready for a surgical procedure and you are a good candidate for injectable treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be the ideal choice. If you are looking for more long-term results and/or your particular concerns can only be effectively improved with surgery, then a brow lift may be recommended. The best way to determine which treatment is ideal for your needs is to have a consultation with our board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Charles Perry can evaluate your skin and talk with you about your goals to help you decide whether brow lift surgery, BOTOX® Cosmetic, or another effective alternative is right for you.
