Sacramento California – One of the most beautiful aspects of a face is a smile. A smile makes one look beautiful, happy and inviting. Looking at the covers of magazines and Models in videos and TV we see smiling attractive faces! We often smile back – reflectively. It is amazing, try it sometime smile at someone and see if they don’t smile back.

Lip Lines Before Plastic Surgery

Lip Lines After Plastic Surgery
We have noticed that many people around the Sacramento area are enhancing their smiles with new whiter teeth and perfect lips. Seeing facial harmony in a smile with smooth skin, straight pretty teeth and full lips and cheeks can be quite beautiful. However if the skin doesn’t match the teeth it can look quite unnatural. You may have had this experience already seeing bright straight teeth framed by loose wrinkled thinned skin. The contrast can be quite overwhelming and distracting from the smile. Bright smooth skin and beautiful lips can compensate for less than white teeth however the opposite is usually not true.
What constitutes a beautiful smile is varied, however, classically it involves upper lip elevation, straight beautiful teeth, perhaps a little head tilt and some elevation of the cheeks with some widening and narrowing of the eyes and perhaps some nose crinkling with some brow descent. The key is that all the components match and some symmetry exists.
Aging can affect the smile, and the lips in particular are an extremely sensitive area. One of the aspects of age is thinning and loosening of the skin. Whether from sun damage, smoking or hyperactivity, this dermatohelosis occurs to some extent in all of us. We see this around the eyes – crow’s feet, between the eye brows – elevens, or around the mouth (the parenthesis defect) or even necklace lines. Around the lips this process often results in lip lines referred to as smoker’s lines. What makes the lips unique is their vigorous attachment to the underlying muscle. This muscle (The Orbicularis Oris) moves when we talk eat and pucker. The attachment of the skin to the muscle creates a valley as the skin thins and the loose skin creates a peak between the attachments as the thinning of dermis occurs and the elasticity of the skin decreases. With those who are thin with very active lips or for those with sun damage the lines will be more apparent.
One of the newer treatments we have added for the lips (perioral area) at Chrysalis Cosmetics is the buff and puff. The buff is the laser resurfacing and the puff is the Hyaluronic acid filler. Using injectable fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm we are able to puff the line up by filling the valley so to speak. The filler brings back that fullness and softness of youth and health. Using the Tunable Sciton Laser’s erbium beam we are able to soften the peak of the lip line and stimulate new brighter fresher skin to grow and fill in the valley and soften the peaks, buffing the irregularity. The laser can be tuned to your own personal skin type and wrinkles and go no deeper than necessary, virtually eliminating the risks for hypopigmentation once seen with CO2 lasers around the mouth.
Share your smile and if the lip lines are getting in the way let us help!

One of the most exciting changes in plastic surgery has been the ability to perform multiple procedures at one time. While this can be attributed to more than just the fantastic achievements in plastic surgery, it has allowed cosmetic surgery to move from the hospital inpatient setting to the ambulatory clinical setting in most plastic surgeons offices around Sacramento California. We witnessing more and more people realizing the advantages of having complete transformations such as a tummy tuck and breast augmentation because of the synergistic effects multiple procedures have. The most common recently requested transformation has been the mommy makeover. This combination of procedures addresses the torso from the neck to the thighs. And really when one thinks about the procedure it is similar to having a facelift, eyelift as well as a brow lift and laser resurfacing done all at once. The combination of the facial procedures addresses the full face and provides a more complete and natural appearance. The dramatic and more natural look of having the area completely rejuvenated and restored is often a more natural look than when done piecemeal or at different times.
There is also a trend to have multiple procedures on different aspects of the body at once as well. Commonly liposuction of the neck and thighs might be added to a rhinoplasty and or a breast enhancement. We are seeing ear pinning (otoplasty) being combined with breast augmentation as well as a nose surgery. No longer are people waiting to get their procedures done at different times and having to go through different recoveries and disruptions of their personal lives and busy schedules. While full recovery and incisional healing takes a year, most people return to work within a week or two. Certainly the recovery from multiple procedures may be a little more difficult to endure however most patients state that they would do it again.
The ability to have multiple procedures performed at once is one of the benefits of visiting a plastic surgeon’s office for your transformation because they are fully trained in esthetics and harmony from head to toe in all types of procedures. This allows the plastic surgeon to listen to you and then provide a treatment plan that addresses your concerns as well as your time frame and budget. From injectables such as Juvederm and Botox to lasers such as the Sciton Profractional to Facelifts and Mommy Makeovers, all of the tools are available in one practice. You won’t feel like you are being sold a product or a laser but more of a complete package to address your unique and individual concerns.

For us Californians living in the Sacramento, Folsom, Roseville, Stockton and Modesto areas, we are exposed to UV radiation all year long. For most of us, despite wearing sunscreen and hats we develop brown spots and wrinkles as we age. However we can get rid of this leathery appearance through new laser therapies designed especially for people with darker skin living in the southwest. Often referred to as the Diamond Head Protocol – Dr Charles Perry utilizes Profractional laser therapy with Broad Band Light to correct and refresh the skin. Often only requiring one treatment a year Dr Perry can refresh your skin using the Sciton Laser and some mild skin care products. It is exciting to think about all the possibilities available to you and your skin.

Have you ever wanted to decrease the amount of fat on your belly? Read on as this blog is for you. With all the new technology available liposuction removal of the difficult areas of fat excess has never been easier or more comfortable. Using Tumescence supplemented with Vaser and or Laser Liposuction has increased the comfort and decreased the recovery time as most people with sedentary careers (ie desk work) are now going to work the next day. The procedure can be done with you fully or awake, however many people enjoy a little relaxation – its up to you. While many people choose to have liposuction in the summer – we are finding that the winter months are often better as it allows your body time to recover and look its very best by swim suit season.
When thinking about having liposuction or body contouring performed be sure and choose a plastic surgeon that is board certified in plastic surgery. It is also a good idea to share your goals of body contouring as in some cases another procedure such as a tummy tuck, thigh lift, arm lift of necklift may be more efficacious in achieving your goals.

The long hot summer is coming to an end, and many Californians may be noticing some extra wrinkles and skin damage caused by the sun’s rays. With the recent uptick in patients opting for non-surgical aesthetic enhancement options, one plastic surgeon in Sacramento is helping restore healthy skin to a more youthful sheen.
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 10.2 million people had some type of aesthetic procedure performed last year in the U.S. alone. Nearly half of those procedures were for non-surgical options designed to smooth out and rejuvenate skin that’s showing signs of age and sun damage. Dr. Charles Perry is head of Chrysalis Cosmetics, a Sacramento plastic surgery practice that offers a range of surgical and non-surgical enhancement options that can help patients restore healthy skin to a more youthful glow. And after a particularly harsh California summer, Dr. Perry says patients can reverse some of the effects of the sun’s rays with minimally-invasive procedures. “It’s amazing to see what a little fine-tuning and enhancing an area of the body can do for someone’s self-confidence.”
Dr. Perry says patients considering procedures such as a facelift in Sacramento are typically those who would like more significant, lasting results that address more severe signs of age in the face. But those who would like subtle rejuvenation that targets specific facial and skin areas may find injectable options and laser treatment more suited to their goals. Injectable options such as Restylane®, Sculptra™, and BOTOX® Cosmetic in Sacramento are designed to smooth out lines, wrinkles, and deep creases in a variety of facial areas. A few of the reasons these treatments may have become so popular is that they are quick procedures (typically lasting under 30 minutes) and generally require no downtime. Not to mention that the results are usually instantaneous and effective, significantly reducing signs of age and excess wrinkling caused by exposure to the sun.
Patients can also take advantage of special after-summer offers from Chrysalis Cosmetics. This season, Dr. Perry is offering $500 off laser skin resurfacing when combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to significantly improve the appearance of age and exhaustion around the eyes. Dr. Perry says Sacramento laser skin resurfacing treatment at Chrysalis Cosmetics is a way of harnessing light energy to improve a number of skin conditions and combat the effects of the sun’s rays. “We can choose to remove fine lines, we can tighten the skin, we can make the pores smaller. But really what we’re trying to achieve is to improve the texture and quality of your skin.” Using state-of-the-art laser systems, Dr. Perry can eliminate outer layers of skin damaged by the sun and affected by uneven pigmentation, age spots, rosacea, wrinkles, and other conditions. Dr. Perry says laser skin resurfacing treatments target specific areas of skin and work to bring forth the healthy layers underneath. The result can be a smoother, more youthful appearance and the promotion of healthy skin growth.
With a range of procedures and skin care products available to both women and men, Dr. Perry says the beating of the sun’s harmful rays and the natural aesthetic conditions that come with stress and age can be corrected and the skin renewed to make patients look younger and more vibrant. And -maybe most important of all – help them feel better about themselves and their appearance.

Choosing the right size breast implant can be tricky, especially when considering life circumstances and clothing styles change over time. For some the first choice of implant is too small while for others the augmentation creates breasts that become too large over time. Breast implant exchange is something to consider in either situation. For those of you whom wish to return to smaller breasts, however not as small as they were originally a reduction exchange may be the right choice for you. While for those that feel the breast need to be just a bit bigger increasing the breast implant size may be more appropriate. When considering exchanging implants in Roseville, Folsom, Yuba City, Modesto, Sacramento, El Dorado Hills, Stockton or Davis, Chrysalis Cosmetics and Dr Charles Perry are ready to help answer your questions.
Breast implant exchange can help you achieve the look you desire – whether it be a smaller more slender figure or more voluptuous. Life and your body change over time while your breast implants remain static. In some cases your breast will grow as the skin loosens and stretches while in other situations thy shrink as the breast itself becomes stretched and thinned over the implant and involution occurs. This can create an imbalance in your bodies’ aesthetic harmony, especially with weight loss or following pregnancy. Many women find smaller breasts allow a wider range of clothes and in some cases an easier time finding clothes that fit their body. While some find that firmer breasts slightly larger are more desirable.
Breast augmentation may require a revision surgery involving implant exchange
Breast Augmntation Revision Surgery May Be Required
The breast implant exchange procedure is often done using the previous incision and is usually performed in less than an hour. Occasionally a small lift or internal tightening is required in order to tighten or lift the breast to avoid sagging when going with a different size of breast implant. Occasionally the breast implant is removed completely and may require a drain to be placed for a few days. Certainly you have many choices and options to discuss with your board certified plastic surgeon Dr Charles Perry at Chrysalis Cosmetics in Sacramento. It is important to make informed decisions when considering breast implant exchange especially when considering going to a smaller size. This requires more technical skill and presents more challenges than when going with a larger breast implant. At Chrysalis Cosmetics we will help you make the right choice for your individual needs. Other options to consider are a staged procedure with removal of the current implant in lieu of exchange. This can then be followed by breast augmentation after a small convalescence allowing your tissues to relax and perhaps allowing you more time to consider which size to choose. At Chrysalis Cosmetics serving Folsom, Roseville, Modesto, Stockton and beyond we use a three dimensional imaging software system (Axis Three) that allows you to get an idea of what each size implant will look like on your specific body. Breast augmentation and Implant exchange procedures are very common with the vast majority of women being very happy with their decisions!
