Home/Blog / Can Breast Augmentation Make a Breast Lift Unnecessary?

There are many types of breast surgeries, and Dr. Charles Perry, our board certified plastic surgeon, tailors each one to achieve a specific goal. In some cases, there may be an option between two or more procedures. Breast augmentation is designed to enhance the size and the shape of the breasts. A breast lift can remove sagging skin and elevate the breasts, areolas, and nipples to a higher, more youthful level. If you desire lift and augmentation, however, you may have a choice between a few techniques. One isn’t necessarily “better” than another, but your unique factors will determine which method can optimize your outcome.

If you have a small amount of droop—called breast ptosis—you may be able to have a breast augmentation alone. Adding an implant and increasing the size of the breasts can reduce or eliminate mild signs of sagging in some women. However, if excess skin is more pronounced and augmentation is desired, a breast lift with implants may be the best option. This procedure removes excess skin, elevates the breasts, and enhances the breast size and shape using breast implants. Additionally, you can have the size and shape of the areola (area surrounding the nipple) modified. While this approach will require larger incisions than a breast enlargement, it gives Dr. Perry the freedom to achieve more comprehensive improvement and address several concerns simultaneously. A breast lift alone without implants is often requested as well for those who desire a smaller, firmer, more youthful-looking breast without the shape and firmness provided by an implant. With so many options, it can be difficult to decide which one is best for you without meeting with your physician.

There are a surprising number of options in breast enhancement today, and a consultation with Dr. Perry can help you determine which procedure can give you the best possible results.
