Both men and women can suffer from unwanted hair on the face, neck, arms, legs, or anywhere else on the body. Today’s laser hair removal methods are much more convenient than older methods such as electrolysis, which required that one hair follicle be treated at a time. For laser hair removal at our Sacramento practice near Roseville, we offer the state-of-the-art Gemini™ laser.
The Gemini™ laser hair removal system can treat a large or small area. The laser is fine-tuned according to the size of the area, and delivers a precise amount of laser light to the hair follicles. This light is converted to heat by the follicle, which becomes damaged and never again produces hair.
Gemini™ laser hair removal treatments are comfortable for the patient. Topical anesthetic can be used, and the laser is designed to cool the skin while delivering treatment to the hair follicles. Patients generally report minimal discomfort during treatments and minimal or nonexistent side effects.
The Gemini™ laser hair removal system also has the distinction of being the first FDA-approved laser for the treatment of tanned or naturally dark skin. However, such as with earlier systems, this laser hair removal system most effectively treats coarse, dark hair.
Because hair grows in cycles, you may have to undergo four to six Gemini™ laser hair removal sessions before hair has completely stopped growing in the affected area. However, this is a small price to pay for convenient, short sessions that create no downtime or side effects.

A sign of health, youth, and vitality, glowing skin is the cornerstone of beauty. In addition, beautiful skin is the perfect compliment to any facial plastic surgery procedure including eyelid surgery or facelift. We are proud to offer a full array of skin care services at our practice near Roseville.
Because we realize the power of beautiful skin, Dr. Charles Perry offers his expertise in recognizing and treating blemishes, discoloration, fine lines, and other imperfections. Consultations with a skin care professional can give you new insight into your skin type, the roots of your skin care challenges, and the products that can help revitalize and protect your skin.
As a perfect compliment to skin care consultations at our Roseville area practice, physician-quality facials can rejuvenate the appearance of your skin, leaving it clean, and glowing. We also offer two elite lines of scientifically formulated skin care products, described below.
These skin care lines are scientifically formulated, made with the best ingredients, and more potent than normal drugstore products. They are only available from licensed skin care professionals and are carefully matched to your skin type, lifestyle, and other factors during your skin care consultation at our Roseville area practice.
The Obagi® line of skin care products offers correction of discoloration and blemishes to restore health to skin affected by smoke, sun, and other environmental factors. These products penetrate the skin, stimulating cell renewal, the rebuilding of collagen, and the improvement of circulation. Obagi® skin care products also help make skin less sensitive, renewing its role as the barrier between your body and the outside world.
SkinCeuticals™ products are formulated based on the foundations of optimal skin care: prevention, protection and correction. This line is comprehensive, offering a wide line of products selected according to your individual needs. SkinCeuticals™ products focus on preventing skin cancer, in part through highly effective topical antioxidants and sunscreens. In addition, the SkinCeuticals™ corrective skin care products focus on repairing, brightening, and exfoliating the skin, renewing its health and youthful appearance.
NIA24™ skin care products contain nicotinic acid, a promising new ingredient that battles photodamage in three ways. NIA24™ has been shown to be non-irritating and to improve skin cell turnover (the renewal of the skin) and the integrity of the skin barrier, providing the patient with less moisture loss and greater protection from the sun. In addition, these products decrease rosacea, roughness, and wrinkles while improving the firmness and tone of the skin.
The NIA24™ line is excellent for patients already suffering from photodamage; in clinical studies, mature patients with significant photodamage gleaned the most improvement from the products. However, this line is also excellent for those who seek to prevent the aging of the skin.
Obagi®, SkinCeuticals™, and NIA 24™ are favored by medical professionals like Dr. Perry because they are formulated to exacting standards that make them effective in preventing and fighting wrinkles, fine lines, uneven pigmentation, and other common skin care challenges. Laser skin resurfacing delivers laser energy to targeted layers of the skin, stimulating collagen renewal and helping to erase wrinkles, sunspots, acne, and other skin imperfections. Today’s laser systems are more advanced than ever, stimulating skin renewal from the inside out.
In addition to laser hair and spider vein removal, the Gemini™ system can be set at the specific wavelength for treating broken capillaries, sunspots, benign skin growths, rosacea, acne, wrinkles, birthmarks, redness, ingrown hairs or shaving bumps. This system can be set to target a tiny area — to remove a benign growth or sunspot, for example — or a larger area, to erase signs of rosacea from the cheeks or broken capillaries from the legs.
Depending on the conditions being treated, this type of treatment may take just one session to complete, or up to eight. However, patients typically see improvement immediately after the first session, and skin care problems are often fully resolved by the conclusion of the treatments.
In addition to treating the face and neck, this laser system can be used on other areas of the body showing visible signs of aging or sun damage, such as the hands. No matter where treatment is performed on the body, this type of laser skin resurfacing is virtually painless, allowing patients to return to their daily lives immediately after treatment.
The erbium laser is a convenient way to reduce visible signs of aging by delivering targeted skin care. This laser can address wrinkles, scars, jowls, skin creasing, loss of skin elasticity, and depleted muscle tone in the face and neck. The erbium laser stimulates collagen renewal in the deep layers of the skin, so you will see continual improvements in your skin’s firmness and elasticity.
This type of laser skin resurfacing requires no patient downtime and causes no bruising or swelling; however, it is common for skin to temporarily appear red or chapped after treatment, and skin will begin to peel three or four days after treatment.
Laser skin resurfacing rejuvenates a tired appearance and renews youthful facial and neck contours with no surgery and minimal side effects. In some cases, erbium laser treatments may be a good alternative to eyelid surgery, mini facelift, or other facial cosmetic surgery procedures; in other cases, Dr. Perry may advise you that cosmetic surgery is needed to successfully address your signs of aging. You can learn more about skin resurfacing with the erbium laser by contacting our practice today to schedule a consultation.
Special types of lasers are designed to stimulate collagen in the deep layers of the skin. Collagen renewal lasers are ideal for addressing facial sagging, hollowness, wrinkles, and creases by stimulating skin to renew itself from the inside out.
During treatment, laser pulses are passed over the targeted area, and the deep layers of the skin absorb the laser energy, stimulating your skin to replenish its collagen. Generally, three treatments spaced two to three weeks apart are recommended. While you will experience immediate improvement in the look and feel of your skin, new collagen growth actually begins two to six months after your first treatment.
This laser can stimulate collagen remodeling in any area of the body, including the face, abdomen, elbows, and knees. In addition, specific areas of the face can be targeted for subtle and painless rejuvenation. These areas include the forehead, jaw line / jowls, and the area between the nose and mouth. For more information about skin care using laser collagen renewal, contact our cosmetic surgery practice today.
Dr. Perry has prepared this comprehensive list of instructions to make your laser skin resurfacing experience as smooth as possible. Please read over the instructions at least five days before your appointment, and print them out for post-treatment reference.

Chemical peel is a term that can refer to a mild peel containing alpha hydroxy acids, a medium-depth peel containing trichloracetic acid, or a deep peel containing phenol. The peel chosen depends on the severity of the patient’s of blemishes, sun damage, skin pigmentation, and other visible signs of aging.
Regardless of the strength, however, chemical peels work by removing the damaged outer layers of your skin, revealing a layer of smooth, baby-soft skin. Chemical peels are an effective, long-term treatment for uneven skin texture, acne, uneven pigmentation, fine lines, precancerous growths, and other common skin care problems. With mild chemical peels, a series of peel treatments may be necessary to achieve optimal results.
Infection and scarring are possible side effects of medium to deep chemical peels. Additionally, patients should be prepared for their skin to peel, flake, and crust over during the healing process. In some cases, a complete healing may take several months, but it is important to remember that extended healing translates to more dramatic, long-lasting results. For more information about skin care treatments with chemical peels, contact our Sacramento practice near Roseville today.
Colored or bulging spider veins in the legs can be unsightly as well as painful. In the past, removing these veins meant invasive surgery and a lengthy, painful recovery. However, today lasers have made it possible to treat spider veins, with non-invasive surgery.
Laser spider vein removal is quick, typically taking less than one hour, and can be used to treat one or two veins at once. During the process, Dr. Perry will map out the troublesome vein, usually with ultrasound. Then, he will apply local anesthetic to the treatment area and insert a thin laser fiber into a tiny entry point. Usually this location is near the knee, and the insertion requires only a small incision. Next, laser energy is delivered to the vein, sealing it off. The vein will collapse and fade away, and blood will readily divert to the dozens of other veins in the leg.
This method of spider vein removal has been in widespread use for six years now and can be an exciting compliment to laser hair removal. Its main advantage is that it offers effective treatment with little or no downtime — patients can stand, walk, and resume their daily activities immediately after treatment, and can usually return to work without delay. Patients may experience minor soreness and bleeding, but these are temporary, and soreness can be controlled with over-the-counter medications.

Dr Perry will choose a specific wave length of laser to remove the moles while not injuring the surrounding skin. This use of laser allows Dr Perry to remove brown spots, skin tags and moles without leaving scars through selectively heating the tissue to be removed. The laser takes only a few minutes to remove multiple lesions in a single setting. After being treated with the laser patients often go right back to work. All Dr Perry asks is that you use sun screen and allow three to four days for the spot to be absorbed by your own body. Most patients elect add the Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation treatment to the laser brown spot removal. Non-ablative (non removal of body tissue) laser treatment is a technique for eliminating blemished areas from the skin and improving skin luster and texture. This is a useful treatment for both aging and sun damaged skin. Non-ablative lasers penetrate deep into the lower layers of the skin without injuring the outer layers of skin. Dr Perry uses two different non – ablative laser wavelengths; 532nm and 1064nm. A topical anesthetic as well as a cooling probe is used to reduce any discomfort during the procedure. Benefits of this treatment include the reduction of fine wrinkles and reduction or elimination of unsightly pigmented lesions like solar spots or uneven skin color. Small red and blue vessels may be reduced or diminished. Possible risks or discomforts (side effects) may include pain, burning, blister formation, and stinging sensation, infection, pigmentary changes including decrease or increase in skin color at the site of treatment, scar formation, laser induced "cold-sore-like" blistering, skin eruptions known as "herpetic" skin eruptions at the site of treatment and poor cosmetic outcome. Photographs of the treatment area are recommended for your medical chart and future comparison. Multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve complete satisfaction. Short-term redness/swelling can be expected.
Sun damaged and aging skin along with some skin blemishes and superficial scars can be treated removed with either the Micro or Weekend Laser Peel procedure. Either treatment requires minimal anesthetic and minimal healing time. The laser light is highly absorbed by water in skin and results in the removal of a very superficial layer of the skin.
A topical anesthetic may be applied before treatment to reduce discomfort during the procedure. Photographs of the treatment area are recommended for your medical chart and future comparison. Multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve complete satisfaction. Short term redness along with mild swelling can be expected.

Before your appointment remember to use sun screen to quite the skin melanocytes before your therapy.
