Breast Implants As Bombs – Boob Bombs Possible?

Posted by drperry in Breast Augmentation, Uncategorized

Surgically Implanted Bombs

As a plastic surgeon in Sacramento California we hear all sorts of things.  We were recently asked about implantable boob bombs by a client.  She worked for the TSA and last year they underwent some training on implantable explosive devices. Recently a news story about implantable bombs caught our eyes as well.  Would it be possible to implant a bomb into a breast implant?  The answer is yes.  And could it be placed safely and effectively – yes.  However the why and who would be the real questions.  Conceivably a sterile device could be manufactured that would detonate inside a breast implant.  All it would need to contain is a propellant, an igniter, and a detonating receiver.  With enough combustible energy (say more than 3 ounces – like 20 ounces) the device could also conceivably disrupt a crowded place or an airplane.  A standard breast implant being around 300 cc or 10 ounces it seems plausible and possible, and again why and who would do this. And really why not put the device into the abdomen instead of the breast?

We certainly have no knowledge of any doctor who would do this. It goes against the Hippocratic oath – First Do No Harm. What Doctor who has gone through such extensive training would even consider doing this? Perhaps he or she wouldn’t know what they are doing? That is really unlikely as the implants when placed are transparent and need to be inspected prior to placement. Not only would they have to look different but they most likely would feel different too. Maybe they could be coerced into such an act? This doesn’t seem likely but possible – perhaps.  However, who would even consider having this done?

These are the real questions – who and how. The other issue is avoidance of detection. Could this go undetected?  With the advanced imaging devices probably not however with a pat down search – probably. Certainly a question the TSA must have an answer for. Say a bomb was placed into a breast implant – would they be able to detect it? However it would still be fair to say that the limiting factor would be the motivation of the human sacrifice and the doctor implementing this diabolical plan that would be the crux of the matter. The other insights are just little details.

For now Boob Bombs is perhaps just another interesting news story.

More Women choose Gel implants for Breast Augmentation

Posted by drperry in Breast Augmentation

Sacramento California. One of the interesting trends we are witnessing this year is the resurgence of plastic surgery procedures such as breast augmentation.  The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released statistics from 2010 taken from its members for the year 2010.  The survey revealed an overall  5 % increase in plastic surgery procedures compared to 2009 – which we found surprising given the state of the economy.   However it seems that people are moving forward with their lives that had been put on hold and feeling more confident about their future.  In regards to breast augmentation an increase of 2% (296,000) was witnessed.  The great majority of women choosing to enhance their breast are choosing to do so with silicone gel implants as well with over 60% of women choosing this implant style for its natural feel despite it being slight more expensive.   One of the recent advances in silicone gel implants for breast augmentation has been the increased use of a placement device – The Keller Funnel.  This has allowed plastic surgeons to place the gel implant more gently and perhaps decrease the risk of bleeding infection or scar tissue in the future.  Prospective studies will be needed to confirm these claims moreover it remains a plastic surgeons choice and methods vary.  Breast enhancement and breast enhancement revision remain popular procedures.   We look forward to another exciting year.

New Advances in Silicone Gel Breast Augmentation in Sacramento California

Posted by rosemont in Breast Augmentation

At Chrysalis Cosmetics, Dr Charles Perry a board certified plastic surgeon, and his staff are always evaluating new technology and devices to enhance or improve your experience and cosmetic surgery result. One of the recent additions to our plastic surgery office has been the Keller Funnel. The Funnel is used in cosmetic breast augmentation surgeries to enhance the result. The Funnel allows for a smaller incision size and requires less force to breast implant placement. The smooth funnel allows the full implant to be placed in the appropriate position with greater control as well in our hands. We use it most commonly for silicone gel implants placed through the axilla and for implants placed through the areola. We have seen less bruising and feel that it has decreased the postoperative discomfort, surgical time and may decrease the risk of surgical infection and capsular contracture however that remains to be seen as we have just started to use the device. We continue to evaluate our services and products lines, if there is something of interest please let us know.

Choosing your plastic surgeon for breast augmentation

Karen Shares her Experience at Chrysalis Cosmetics with Breast Enhancement Surgery

Sacramento California. Once you’ve made the decision to take the plunge with breast augmentation or other plastic surgery procedure the next big decision is choosing your plastic surgery provider. Recently I was thinking about how one makes that decision. It can be a tough one and I imagine many do it more scientifically than I as I often find myself asking others whom they would recommend and then go on line to evaluate their presentation. It is interesting because I used to look in the Yellow pages for the biggest add or closest provider and evaluate them over the phone.

Our question was, “Is this what others do too?” So with interest we began asking people whom chose us for their plastic surgery needs how they came to their decision. The number one was reason was the internet and number two was friend referral followed by other paid advertizing such as radio and print. However it certainly varies. For most people they usually ask a friend whom they would recommend especially if they have had the same procedure done. Websites seem to be the other common place from where to choose your surgeon. Before and after photos of the procedure you are interested in can be reviewed so that you can personally evaluate the results. When doing this find someone with a similar build so that you can get a reasonable idea about what you might expect from a similar procedure. Also look at how many years experience they have and be sure that they are accredited by a reputable agency and plastic surgery board. Many surgeons are also including testimonials on their websites or Facebook accounts as well. These can be helpful however remember that these testimonials are usually only from people that are willing to do them and in general happy with their results. All of these methods are helpful and you will certainly develop a feel for the providers practice and a comfort level. You will be drawn to the one that you will feel most comfortable with in most cases it will be the right decision for you. There are other ways to choose as well, give us a call if we can help. Have a wonderful spring.

Mommy Makeovers can be completed in one setting.

Posted by rosemont in Abdominoplasty, Breast Augmentation

Sacramento California – Plastic Surgery. A common question we get asked this time of year, “Can I have a breast augmentation at the same time as my tummy tuck?” This is a question that will require a consultation and thorough medical examination in order to make a thoughtful, educated decision and answer to the question specifically. Certainly it is an individual decision and you must be evaluated by a board certified plastic surgeon in order for a decision to be made, however it has become increasingly common for breast augmentation and abdominoplasty to be combined into one setting – a “mommy makeover”. Many journal articles and studies have been done looking at this issue in regards to safety and results with the conclusion being that it is safe and effective to combine multiple surgical procedures at one time. This avoids the multiple anesthetics and multiple recovery times. Abdominoplasty is the procedure that is associated with a higher unexpected outcomes such as wound healing irregularities and deep venous thrombosis or hypertophic scarring and need for scar revision. In a look at our numbers from last year more than half of all patients had more than one procedure performed at a time with no correlation to unexpected outcomes. Most commonly the second procedure was liposuction. This being said it still a medical decision that can only be made after some consideration with the emphasis being placed on your safety first.

The Mommy Makeover becomes more popular in Sacramento as the Summer Season Nears

Posted by rosemont in Abdominoplasty, Breast Augmentation, Liposuction

Many women around Sacramento are realizing that they can enhance their shape through plastic surgery. One of the more common combinations of procedures in Sacramento at Chrysalis Cosmetics has been the mommy makeover. Usually this procedure addresses the abdomen and the breasts at the same time. Some women have liposuction, others choose a tummy tuck. Some women will have a breast lift and others will have a breast augmentation using either silicone gel implants or saline breast implants. One such example is pictured here.

Before going on her vacation this summer she wanted to get bikini ready and didn’t feel comfortable with the excess skin around her tummy. She was also interested enhancement of her breasts that while beautiful naturally appeared a bit deflated to her. She elected to have a breast augmentation with a small implant placed to enhance her cleavage as well as a tummy tuck and some liposuction along her waist. Her recovery was uneventful and she is excited to get new clothes as she has lost a few sizes. She looks great and feels fantastic. Her waist was really framed nicely by her hips and breasts and her breast incision is well hidden and the abdominal incision can easily be hidden with the right bikini. It is rewarding to witness the exciting changes plastic surgery offers for healthy individuals in the Roseville, Folsom, Stockton areas. We are so happy for her at Chrysalis Cosmetics.

Breast Augmentation; How do you Decide Which Breast Implant You’d Like. Sacramento California

Posted by rosemont in Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most common plastic surgery operations. In Sacramento at Chrysalis Cosmetics, Dr Charles Perry (A board certified Plastic Surgeon – specializing in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery) offers a full range of breast augmentation options and if you like includes you in the decision making process. One of the ways plastic surgery has evolved in recent years is computerized imaging. Using the Axis Three Portrait 3 dimensional imager along with breast implant sizers that you can wear often allows you to get a better idea of what you will look like with a breast augmentation.

Silicone, Silicone Gels, and Silicone Breast Augmentation

Posted by rosemont in Breast Augmentation, Plastic Surgery

Breast augmentation using silicone breast implants has become our most popular procedure over the past year here at Chrysalis Cosmetics in Sacramento California near Roseville and Stockton. It is really not surprising as silicones make up 90% of the earth’s outer crust. Silicone is found in almost everything we use (lotions, shampoos, deodorants, toothpastes) usually as dimethylsilicone silica, silica dimethyl silylate, and cyclopentasiloxane. One of the reasons for silicone being used so readily is its abundant supply, it variety of forms and uses as well as its safety profile. Silicone exists as a solid, a gel or even a liquid depending upon the number of bonds it has with its neighboring silicone or other element. Because silicone is so malleable, a cohesive gel has been created that is approved for use in humans that feel very similar to breast tissue. Cohesive gel is a term meant to describe a state between a gel and a solid.

It would make sense that silicone would work as a synthetic breast as you would want something with the feel of tissue that could move with your normal tissue but would maintain its shape and stay together if its shell broke.

The only silicone breast implants that are available now for implant are either solid or gels. Most women prefer a (cohesive) gel silicone implant for their breast augmentation and most men prefer a solid silicone implant for their pectoralis muscle augmentation. The only silicone gels now available in the Unites States are cohesive gels – soft, mobile yet even if the outer protective shell of the implant breaks (and it can over time from oxidation) – the inner gel will stay together until removed by your plastic surgeon. In the 60′s and 70′s the first two generations of silicone implant had a gel that was not as cohesive and as such it ended up spreading throughout the breast tissue and into the lymph nodes. Prior to 1960 some people were just injecting silicone (meant to lubricate machinery) into the breast. As such this impure silicone caused a vigorous tissue response and often created breast that were much distorted over time and the droplets were difficult to remove. Many women required mastectomies to completely remove the micro droplets that often migrated throughout the breast and chest. Since then silicone is now medical grade, pure and more cohesive. In the near future we may see a variety of cohesive gels that vary in their firmness with some being almost form stable (like a gummy bear or a jello).

In the implant you choose for enhancing your breast is a very personal choice. This is why it is so important to review the choices of breast implants prior to your consultation or surgery. At Chrysalis Cosmetics, Dr Perry will examine you and help you make an informed decision on what implant is right for your breast augmentation.

The surgical technique for placing your silicone or saline breast implant is similar however the incision is slightly (2 cm) longer when placing a gel implant as it is filled prior to placement and the saline is filled after placement. I recommend silicone implants for women who want a more natural look and feel without clothes on. I hope this is helpful.

How to care for the Breasts Following Breast Augmentation Surgery

Posted by rosemont in Breast Augmentation

Choosing the right plastic surgeon is important for the outcome of your breast enhancement or augmentation surgery involving breast implants (For Dr Charles Perry’s information see 916cosmeticsurgery.com). Besides choosing the right surgeon and support staff to help you get through the healing process, one should also consider obtaining excellent support bras. Follwoing surgery breast massage will be taught to you by one of our trained patient care coordinators. You will also be encouraged to apply a hydrating lotion as the breast swell. This proctects the skin and prevents additional irritation. It is also important to protect the breast from the sun and wind following surgery until the swelling resolves.

One of the services essential services Dr Charles Perry and the staff at Chrysalis Cosmetics offer is a free sizing service following completion of your healing process. We believe in supporting your breast to prevent gravity from aging your beautiful enhanced breasts. Once the swelling and settling are complete your breast band size and cup size will be determined. A discount on Le Mystere No 9 Lingerie will also be offered if you’d like. We believe life should be beautiful. It is important to protect and support your breasts with great fitting lingerie that will support an enhanced breast in the appropriate manner. We look forward to assisting you in the transformation.

Saline or Gel Breast Implants for Your Breast Augmentation?

Posted by rosemont in Breast Augmentation

One of the most exciting developments in breast augmentation (for pictures ) over the past year has been the advent of gel breast implants. The FDA approval of gel has allowed women to replace the older saline implants that were prone to wrinkling and thinning of the breast tissue inferior and lateral to the nipple to a device that looks and feels much more natural. At Chrysalis Cosmetics Dr Charles Perry specializes in the endoscopic placement of the Gel breast implants. We have found that so many people would prefer to have an incision in their axilla away from the breast. Dr Perry uses a microscope to place the implant which leads to more accurate placement of the implant in his hands. We have developed a method of placement of the gel implant through axilla that gives a beautiful breast. Certainly saline breast augmentation continues to be popular and 95% of patients that have saline breast augmentation are still happy 2 years after the surgery. The incisions for the saline breast augmentation are half as small and deflation of a saline implant is easier to detect. It is important when choosing your breast implant to make a decision that is both well informed and right for you.
In the next year we expect another exciting development in the area of breast aesthetics, the shape gel implant. In Europe the shaped gel implant that leads the market is the same one that is awaiting FDA approval. We anticipate its arrival here perhaps by early next year. This implant will allow plastic surgeons to create a more natural looking breast through the use of a gel breast implant that is both soft and shaped.
We look forward to the future of breast enhancement and breast augmentation and the many new options available to women in the Folsom, Roseville, Stockton, Modesto, Sacramento area. Let us know if we can answer any of your questions regarding breast augmentation, enhancement, breast lifts or implant exchange and revision surgery.
