Dr. Charles Perry Donates Skin from Various Plastic Surgery Procedures

Dr. Charles Perry, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Sacramento, CA, is helping his patients provide an invaluable gift to those who have survived cancer, as well as burn and trauma victims. By participating in the Living Skin Donation program, in cooperation with the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF), Dr. Perry is helping patients donate skin following a body contouring procedure, such as tummy tucks or after weight loss plastic surgery.

At his Sacramento plastic surgery practice, Chrysalis Cosmetics, Charles Perry, MD is teaming up with his current patients and the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF) to provide life-changing skin and tissue donations through the Living Skin Donation program. MTF is the largest tissue bank in the nation and is dedicated to connecting donors with surgeons such as Dr. Perry to provide living skin to a varied spectrum of patients in need, ranging from breast cancer survivors to burn and trauma victims. “We at Chrysalis Cosmetics feel it is very important to be involved in this donation process for both parties involved.”

Following an in-depth screening process to ensure each patient is well suited to donate tissue, Dr. Perry says he and his specially-trained team harvest and prepare the skin, then send it to the MTF collection facility. In the past, he says the practice donated skin to other tissue banks or researchers for laser studies, but settled on MTF as the primary receiver of their patients’ tissue donations because the feedback the organization provides patients is exceptional.

Chrysalis Cosmetics patients initially urged Dr. Perry to get involved with the Living Skin Donation program because they were upset the tissue was discarded following their tummy tuck or post-bariatric procedure. “The donation process is often very fulfilling for both parties. The person donating feels as though they have done something good with their unneeded skin, and often comments that it feels like the right thing to do as they begin their new life.”

Sacramento California – Plastic Surgery. A common question we get asked this time of year, “Can I have a breast augmentation at the same time as my tummy tuck?” This is a question that will require a consultation and thorough medical examination in order to make a thoughtful, educated decision and answer to the question specifically. Certainly it is an individual decision and you must be evaluated by a board certified plastic surgeon in order for a decision to be made, however it has become increasingly common for breast augmentation and abdominoplasty to be combined into one setting – a “mommy makeover”. Many journal articles and studies have been done looking at this issue in regards to safety and results with the conclusion being that it is safe and effective to combine multiple surgical procedures at one time. This avoids the multiple anesthetics and multiple recovery times. Abdominoplasty is the procedure that is associated with a higher unexpected outcomes such as wound healing irregularities and deep venous thrombosis or hypertophic scarring and need for scar revision. In a look at our numbers from last year more than half of all patients had more than one procedure performed at a time with no correlation to unexpected outcomes. Before going on her vacation this summer she wanted to get bikini ready and didn’t feel comfortable with the excess skin around her tummy. Recently, a fit woman in her sixties whom had several children wanted to reduce the excess skin and improve her little abdominal pouch. One of the most exciting develops in the past few years in plastic surgery has been the realization that we can tighten skin without surgery. Recently we have seen an increase in women requesting abdominoplasties and tummy tucks. There seems to be an increase in the numbers of people requesting an enhancement of their waist hip and breast regions. Some of the newer techniques that Dr Charles Perry has added to his abdominoplasty include a pubic lift. This combined with selective liposuction and occasionally some SkinTyte or Photofacial procedures after really have enhanced their results. Revision Abdominoplasty Sacramento

Tummy tucks and abdominoplasties usually are a once in a lifetime procedure. However there are occasions when a revision Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck makes sense. At Chrysalis Cosmetics in Sacramento California we recommend waiting at least a year before considering additional surgery on the abdomen. We like to see the skin and incision settle before passing any judgments as to the results. It is always amazing how good things look when the redness resolves and the swelling goes away. The new shape is often spectacular. This also allows the body time recover and you more time to get into better shape and improve the results as well. In the Roseville, Folsom and Stockton area revision Abdominoplasty is often done following additional children, weight loss or weight gain and can also be done for loose skin.

Sometimes liposuction of the abdomen and hips are all that is needed. Sometimes a mini tummy tuck can tighten the residual laxity and on occasion a full tummy tuck is required. In patient that have lost weight on occasion an extended Abdominoplasty that goes around to the back will help lift the thighs as well. Certainly in some a reverse Abdominoplasty may address the upper laxity under the breasts or an upper body lift for others.
